Purpose of the Job

Key Job Objectives

  • Business Collaboration: Work with stakeholders to identify requirements and frame business scenarios that answer critical retail questions.
  • Model Development: Develop, validate, and execute predictive models and algorithms to analyze and interpret large datasets.
  • Data Engineering: Build data structures and pipelines to organize and standardize data, ensuring its integrity, accuracy, and uniformity.
  • Quality Assurance: Adhere to strict documentation standards using version control and code repositories to ensure all solutions are robust and scalable.
  • Insight Generation: Investigate problems and detect patterns to help Shoprite maintain its competitive edge in the retail market.

Minimum Requirements

Education:

  • Essential: Diploma or Degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering, or a related field.

Experience:

  • Essential: At least 3 years of experience in a Data Scientist or similar analytical role.
  • Essential: Proven experience in Data Modeling and Dashboards.
  • Desired: Previous experience within a retail, commercial, or IT environment.
  • Desired: Experience using Tableau for data visualization.

Technical Skills:

  • Programming: Working knowledge of SQL, Python, R, and RStudio.
  • Software: Proficiency in MS Office 365 (Advanced Excel skills are a must).
