Purpose of the Job
As a Data Scientist I, you will support the broader Data Science team in leveraging data-driven techniques to solve complex business problems. You will apply scientific methods to detect patterns, extrapolate insights, and communicate those findings to various stakeholders within the Group.
Key Job Objectives
- Business Collaboration: Work with stakeholders to identify requirements and frame business scenarios that answer critical retail questions.
- Model Development: Develop, validate, and execute predictive models and algorithms to analyze and interpret large datasets.
- Data Engineering: Build data structures and pipelines to organize and standardize data, ensuring its integrity, accuracy, and uniformity.
- Quality Assurance: Adhere to strict documentation standards using version control and code repositories to ensure all solutions are robust and scalable.
- Insight Generation: Investigate problems and detect patterns to help Shoprite maintain its competitive edge in the retail market.
Minimum Requirements
Education:
- Essential: Diploma or Degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering, or a related field.
Experience:
- Essential: At least 3 years of experience in a Data Scientist or similar analytical role.
- Essential: Proven experience in Data Modeling and Dashboards.
- Desired: Previous experience within a retail, commercial, or IT environment.
- Desired: Experience using Tableau for data visualization.
Technical Skills:
- Programming: Working knowledge of SQL, Python, R, and RStudio.
- Software: Proficiency in MS Office 365 (Advanced Excel skills are a must).
- Methodology: Exposure to Agile, Lean, or Design Thinking principles.
